What we believe
As a Christian Summer Camp, our faith statement is immensely important to us. These beliefs are what guide our teaching, our decision making, and our lives.
In One God:
There is one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existent in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God, having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:26-27, Matthew 3:1-17)
The Bible:
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and inerrant Word of God. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21)
The Deity of Christ:
We affirm the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, and His miracles. He is fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation. (Isaiah 9:6, John 10:24-30, John 14:8-9, John 1:1-16, Titus 2:13, John 8:58, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-35, Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 3:5, Matthew 8:1-27, Mark 2:5-12, Acts 2:22-24, Mark 10:45, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9, John 2:18-22, Acts 1:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, Matthew 28:1-7, Acts 1:9-11, Mark 16:19, Ephesians 1:19-21, Hebrews 12:2)
The Return of Christ:
We believe in the personal, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory. His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His future return demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission. (Matthew 24:29-30, Matthew 26:64, Acts 1:9-11, Revelation 22:12)
Salvation:
We believe that salvation is by grace, through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. (Romans 3:21-26, Ephesians 2:1-10, Titus 3:3-7)
The Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service. (John 16:14, Titus 3:5, Romans 8:15-17, Acts 1:8)
Christian Living:
God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. (Romans 3:24, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, Matthew 22:37-39, James 2:15-16, Micah 6:8.)
Resurrection and Eternal Destiny:
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto eternal life, and the unsaved unto everlasting damnation. God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 5:24-29, 1 Corinthians 15:51-57, Revelation 20:11-15)
Our Faith in Action:
At High Sierra Discipleship Camp, we strive to embody and fulfill our faith statement every day. We do this by offering an immersive discipleship experience that brings the essence of our faith to life.
Here, campers delve into the inspired, infallible Word of God, guided by our dedicated staff who serve as living examples of the grace, love, and servitude preached in the Scriptures.
Camp’s fellowship, activities, worship, and Biblical teaching are all avenues through which we illuminate the truths of our Savior and King, and by which the Holy Spirit moves in the hearts of the next generation.
In all that we do, High Sierra Discipleship Camp seeks to fulfill and live out our faith statement, equipping the next generation to carry forward the truths of the Bible into their everyday lives.
